I'll have to try conditioner first, and I know the feeling of old toy ick, just got it from sorting thru two generations of dollhouse furniture, and some stuff I got from an estate sale was just eeew until I cleaned it up.

It turns out we still have the Barbie horses from the 90s, I thought they were gone, turns out they just ended up in a tub of random Barbie stuff I kept putting off until I could get all the Barbie stuff in the same place at the same time.

On the horse end of things the full sized Grand Champions are being round up to be dealt with. The Fashion Star Fillies are on the fence.

Progress update!

I apparently didn't get good pictures of the beginning, before I started working on her, but trust me when I say she was FUNKY. I'm going to work on styling the mane and tail next.

An update on Dallas's restoration, and her new "brother" I have dubbed Butterscotch.

I'm not 100% sure on the origins of Butterscotch. I THINK he might be a Boots n Spurs Western Horse, which was modeled almost exactly after Mattel's Dallas. He's stamped on one side with M.I.I. 1983. His hair definitely isn't as high quality as Dallas's, but I think I can eventually get it to behave. The old boy's joints are also quite loose and he's a bit stubborn to balance, but that's nothing a little poster putty can't help with. Considering he's over four decades old, I think he has a right to have joint issues.

I remember the jointed horse from my childhood catalogue perusal. I didn't realize it wasn't also a Mattel horse.

I think Mattel DID do jointed horses, but they were slightly different than this one. I've also seen this one referred to as a "Meritus" horse, which I think might be the brand.

The box art has "Boots N Spurs" and "Forever Girl Friends" on it, and there's different color versions of the same horse with Meritus being the maker. Forever Girl Friends brand looks to have several other colors of the base horse and it looks like the one sold for the Maxie doll.

Basically it looks like Meritus did some suspiciously similar looking clone dolls and stuff so there's a rabbit hole to look in to.

I had an orange and white jointed posable Barbie horse for awhile but it didn't quite look like those.

I know Mattel made some jointed horses with plastic manes and tails, and I know the Cali Girl horses are articulated. Also, all the walking horses they've made over the years. It's quite a rabbit hole indeed.
